SA 8000 is a standard for social accountability in the workplace. In essence, social accountability means managing business activities in a manner that respects and promotes the basic human rights of all workers.

SA8000 is promoted as a voluntary, universal standard for companies interested in auditing and certifying labour practices in their facilities and those of their suppliers and vendors. It is designed for independent third party certification.

SA8000 is based on the UN Universal declaration of human right, Convention on the rights of the child and various International Labour Organization(ILO) conventions
